Nancy Cloonan
Nancy Cloonan is an abstract painter whose work transforms the quiet details of everyday life into vibrant, layered compositions. Based in Plymouth, Massachusetts, she draws inspiration from daily walks through her surroundings, where ordinary encounters become the foundation for her paintings. Rather than documenting these moments directly, Cloonan distills them through memory and intuition, creating abstract works that celebrate observation, presence, and the beauty found in the overlooked. Her process begins with photographing and collecting visual impressions during her walks before allowing those memories to evolve in the studio. Through repeated layers of shape, line, color, transparency, and opacity, each painting develops gradually, with every mark contributing to the final composition. Cloonan embraces painting as an ongoing practice, believing that the work continues to evolve both on and away from the canvas. She earned a BA in Studio Art and has continued her artistic education through numerous workshops and creative programs. A dedicated member of the South Shore arts community, Cloonan paints from her home studio in Plymouth and her studio at the ET Wright Building artist community in Rockland, Massachusetts. Her optimistic, intuitive abstractions invite viewers to pause, look closely, and discover beauty in the rhythms of everyday life.
